A whole new series from the world of the Echo Trilogy.

Three years ago, the gods abandoned us. We've been alone ever since.

Kat Dubois is immortal, and she's retired. She's long since hung up her sword and left assassinating immortals to someone else...anyone else. She's now a hard drinking, sass-flinging Seattle tattoo artist with the innate ability to read people's fortunes using her charmed deck of tarot cards. Her days of bloodshed are over, and she has nothing but time - an eternity, in fact - to hide from her past.

Until someone from her past shows up on her doorstep with news that her beloved older brother and mentor, Dominic, has gone missing. Kat may be the only person with the right skills - and access to the right magic - to track him down. She must confront her past if she's to have any chance of finding and saving her brother. She must fight her demons. She must embrace the power within her.

She must become the Ink Witch.

Ink Witch Kat Dubois Chronicles Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lindsey Fairleigh Julia Whelan Books

In some ways this is pretty typical UF fare with a main female character who has attitude, kicks butt and thinks she needs to stay away from those she loves in order to keep them safe. In other ways it is unique (at least to me) with paranormal entities originating from Egyptian gods and goddesses. A solid storyline and good narration on the audiobook made this an entertaining read.

**Addendum: I just discovered that this is a spinoff series to the author's Echo in Time series. I will admit that there were times while I was reading that I had the feeling that some of these characters had appeared before and I was getting a recap of their story. It made me momentarily wonder if this was the middle of a series (even though I knew it was not). I didn't feel lost, as we were given pretty succinct recaps, however I did feel like it was more information than a normal secondary character would normally get, hence my confusion. All that said, I did not feel like I had to read the previous series to enjoy this one. I probably will not go back and read the first series as the recaps I got didn't interest me as much as this series did. That said, IF both sound interesting to you, I would start with the previous one so that the plot lines of the books in the first series aren't ruined by getting the recaps in the spinoff.**

Ink Witch Kat Dubois Chronicles Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lindsey Fairleigh Julia Whelan Books Reviews

This is very well written and enjoyable for either a generous sample, or the first half of a book.

This kind of just stopping in the middle always makes me feel cheated, at least a little.

I was reading through the book, and it seemed like the middle of the story, and suddenly there just wasn't anymore.

Up until the point where I flipped the page and discovered it had just stopped, it was a really good book and I was enjoying it, though.
If you haven't already read this BRILLIANT authors series 'Echo Trilogy' which starts with the HIGHLY addicting "Echo In Time" I strongly suggest you do so before reading this book. First off because it's a great book lol.... However mainly so you won't be lost as to who all these characters are. Most of the characters in INK WITCH are introduced and fleshed out in the aforementioned series. This is the continuation in a spin off. We find Kat a number of years after she left everyone at the end of "Ricochet Through Time". When last we saw her she was young, naive, and quickly becoming hardened by the rather harsh realities of her world. We learn what she did to both distance herself and survive.... Both physically and emotionally. Not the same Kitty Kat we knew from the previous series. Now she's a hard edged woman trying to find her place. She's a tattoo artist now..... Rumblings through the community refer to her as Ink Witch. Although she's not the same as she once was... Her gift now manifests in new ways. Ink helps her know things. Find missing people. Help solve murders..... Or possibly track down a missing beloved brother and mentor. NIK appears from nowhere.... Suddenly her own personal kryptonite is in her face again. In quick succession Kat learns there are missing homeless kids in the area and they desperately need her help find them. Next blow is Dom is missing. Can she help save her brother, find the kids and live happily ever after? Learning on the fly how her sheut now works it's trial and error. If you love time travel, paranormal (not vamps and weres this time), messy family dynamics, ancient Egypt and all it's mythos ..and tough chicks who kick butt and put a mark on the world.... Then this is for you. I warn you it's very addicting. Once reading the last page you quickly realize you want... No need the next book darnit! If you've already read the Echo series, it's still fun to re-read the books to refamiliarize yourself with these characters. Kat has always been a favorite of mine, and I truly look forward to seeing how she develops. Both in her use of powers and how she just grows as a person. It's hard to truly review as I don't want to give away what the entire previous series is about as if you <potential reader> haven't read said series yet. I go on record highly supporting INK WITCH and the Echo series. Definitely books to read repeatedly. Enjoy stepping into this magical world. Set in the now, yet filled with magic and mystery... where women appear tiny but are actually mighty. Destiny can really be a b@#$ sometimes and Kat is about to get a huge slice of destiny pie whether she's ready or not! Follow Kat along this journey with friends, family and enemies too.... You wont regret it.
Truth be told this book was an enjoyable read. I love the authors take on Egyptian Mythology and attention to detail. My only problem is that I was confused in a lot of the book, maybe it’s because I had to read the authors previous series first but I found the summary of this book more interesting and decided to read this one instead. I spent a lot of the time googling different things and trying to understand what a “Nejeret” was (which I still don’t 100% know for sure what it is) and am assuming it’s a Demi-god of sorts. I guess I just have to keep reading to make sure.

The book revolves around a tattoo artist named Kat Dubois also knows as the Ink Witch because of her special talent with both her tarot cards and drawings to help her find missing people and in this case her brother. She finds help by an old friend named Nik (which I think is a potential love interest and wish I saw more of him and their interactions in the book) and some other gods.

Again, I was confused about which god represented what in the Egyptian mythology but kept reading because the storyline was intriguing. Kat is a kick azz female and will stop at nothing to find her brother. I like when you assume that because the female on the cover has a sword she will be kick azz and then when you read the book it comes true. I hate when authors portray a strong female in the summary only to find out that she runs from threat any chance she gets, this is not the case here. This female really is tough and feisty and knows how to wield a sword.

I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for an independent strong female lead. There are some romantic touches here and there with lots of action in this book. I hope that in the next book I get to see more of Nik. All in all it was pretty good!
